2003-07-29, Tuesday, Webb Creek on The White Oak River below Stella Janet and John Kuzmiak joined Joanne, Elmer and I for a trip on Webb Creek today. Janet and John were vacationing here from Pueblo, Colorado. I am Jim Crownover. I am a CCC&KC member and I am vacationing here from Duncannon, Pennsylvania. Our trip today started at Boondocks on The White Oak River at Stella. It was a beautiful day. We met some folks from NC State doing research on eels in the White Oak. We padded down stream on the west side and were impressed by the numerous canals into the marsh grass. We did not explore them although some of them were inviting. When we came to Webb Creek we turned up stream and paddled to the end as far as paddling is possible. It is a shame that the lovely creek is not cleared of blown down trees so we could paddle from Belgrad-Swansboro Road. We tested my new paddle. It is a short wooden child’s paddle. This will be very good for the tight spots Elmer likes to get into. Elmer said he saw a big alligator and took a picture of it. All I can see in the picture is a little ripple. We picked up a little trash, but the creek was very clean. Jim Crownover
